Lake Bosomtwe is the only natural lake in Ghana measuring about 10.5 kilometres (6.5 miles) in diameter. It is situated within an ancient impact crater and has no surface outlet. Located about 30 km (19 miles) south-east of Kumasi, the capital of Ashanti Region, Lake Bosomtwe is a popular tourist area. It is one of six UNESCO designated biosphere reserve sites. There are about 30 villages near the crater lake of Lake Bosomtwe, with a combined population of about 70,000. The most popular village visited by tourists is Abono.
