Jamestown Lighthouse

4.1

Description

The Jamestown lighthouse is located in Jamestown, Accra, once a major settlement of Europeans during the slave trade. Originally built in the 1930s to replace an earlier lighthouse that had been built in 1871, the 28-metre (92 ft) structure consists of a stone tower with lantern and gallery, attached to a keeper’s house. The lighthouse overlooks a fishing harbour, the historic Fort James, surrounding areas of Accra and the Gulf of Guinea.
