Located 40km north from Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana in the town of Assin Manso is the Assin Manso Slave River Site. This site served as one of the largest 18th-century slave markets during the trans-Atlantic slave trade and was the final point in the slave route from Northern Ghana.
Referred to as the Great Depot, slaves were fed, rested and allowed to take their final bathes before being marched down to the slave forts located along the coast in Cape Coast and Elmina.
